Effective communication and documentation

Effective communication and documentation involve carrying through a shared accessibility intention across content and design through development and quality assurance.

Considering design-driven decisions, code-enabled affordances and considerations, and executing interface content requirements, documentation helps establish a shared framework of accessibility requirements that can be validated throughout the end-to-end product process.

An excellent framework for exploring gaps in the documentation process—from concept to quality assurance—has been shared by Stéphanie WalterOpens in a new window.

There are three exceptional resources from Stéphanie that follow:

  • A designer’s guide to documenting accessibility, #ID24 talk
  • A Designer’s Guide to Documenting Accessibility & User Interactions, Blog post
  • Accessibility & interactions documentation checklist
