1. Be hopeful in our writing
It is easy for language to focus on negative things that need to be changed.
We can help motivate people with a balance of a hopeful outlook (e.g. you can make change and feel happier) over a tendency to focus on the negative things people might be trying to endure.
This approach can involve an active effort to:
- First, work to recognize negative language that may be a natural way to articulate a concept
- Then, explore positive reframing.
- Don't make guaranteesānot every technique will work for every person, and not everyone will have the same outcome and experience.
