For instance, the historical legacy of slavery continues to impact communities such as African-Americans, lower-income communities, and others who have been a part of class-based systems.
Although a seemingly harmless metaphor, comparing emotional dysregulation to slavery enforces stereotypes and discourages people from seeking treatment.
Avoid terms with harmful historical origins such as āIndian Time,ā āOff The Reservation,ā āHooligan,ā and āJipped.ā
